I loved developing this training piece. When the US government mandated that our health care system get in step with the rest of the world by adopting ICD-10 (alphanumeric coding for classifying diagnoses and procedures), the onus for "increasing the specificity and granularity of documentation" to support the expanded code set fell on doctors. It meant that they needed to include a lot more detail to "tell the full story" of their patients' diagnoses and the procedures performed for their care. Through data analysis, we identified the diagnoses with the biggest safety or financial impact, and audience analysis told us that doctors would receive this learning most effectively if it was delivered by their fellow physicians. I developed six videos before turning the project and process over to the Clinical Documentation Integrity team to continue as they chose.
